Recent research on Germanic imports in Western Europe allow one to pinpoint, in Southern France, a group of twenty or so fibulae showing common characteristics with Visigothic examples better known in Spain. The repartition of these fibulae correspond well to the area of Visigothic cultural influence. They are dated at the extreme end of the 5th century and thefirst third of the 6th century. The french series can be considered as an original produce of the Western Goths, who seem to have adopted and conserved in Gaul a mediterranean artisanal tradition. The presence, in the same areas, of diverse germanics fibules anteriore to the Visigothic period could explain the adoption and fabrication of thèse models, in germanised Aquitaine, from the 5th century onwards.
Des recherches récentes sur les importations germaniques en occident permettent d'individualiser, dans le Sud- Ouest de la France, un groupe d'une vingtaine de fibules présentant des caractères communs avec les exemplaires wisi- gothiques mieux connus en Espagne. Ces fibules, dont la répartition correspond bien à l'aire d'influence culturelle des Wisigoths, sont datées- de l'extrême fin du Ve siècle et du premier tiers du VIe s. On peut considérer la série française comme une production originale des Goths occidentaux, qui semblent avoir adopté et conservé en Gaule des traditions artisanales méditerranéennes. La présence, dans ces mêmes régions, de diverses fibules germaniques antérieures à la période wisigothique pourrait expliquer l'adoption et la fabrication de ces modèles, en Aquitaine germanisée, dès le Ve s.
