Parmi les multiples formes d’organisation topographique adoptées par les maisons templières aux XIIe et XIIIe siècles, on observe, dans les diocèses de Cahors, Rodez et Albi, le choix du parti architectural de la tour. L’insertion de ces édifices dans l’enclos des maisons et leur organisation interne posent le problème de leur adaptabilité à l’accueil d’une communauté monastique, ainsi qu’à la mise en oeuvre des espaces nécessaires à la vie spirituelle des frères, comme l’édifice ecclésial. À l’aune d’une première confrontation des données, entre sources écrites et archéologiques, il est possible de poser les jalons d’un problème dont on a, jusqu’alors, rarement pris la mesure.
Among the multiple forms of topographic organization adopted for Templar houses in the XIIth and XIIIth centuries, we observe that the tower is the architectural form adopted in the dioceses of Cahors, Rodez and Albi. The insertion of these buildings within the house enclosures and their inner organization raise the problem of their adaptability to shelter a monastic community, as well as the implementation of the spaces required by the spiritual life of the brothers, as is the case with the ecclesial building. A first confrontation between written and archaeological sources allows the raising of a problem, the importance of which was not often considered until then.
