L’église Saint-Jacques de Bordeaux est le dernier vestige de l’ancien hôpital-prieuré éponyme, fondé au début du XIIe siècle. Une grande campagne de reconstruction au XVe siècle, suivie de deux aménagements, par les Jésuites au XVIIe siècle et par des pères missionnaires durant le XIXe siècle, donnent aujourd’hui son aspect à cet édifice oublié des études historiques et archéologiques. Le présent article propose de replacer cette église, dotée d’une étonnante clef de voûte de choeur, dans la production architecturale et sculpturale bordelaise de la seconde moitié du XVe siècle. On peut également observer, à travers certains documents, comment la fondation de ce type d’établissement influence la disposition architecturale de l’ensemble. Cela souligne la mission d’accueil du pèlerin ralliant Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle par la via turonensis, et permet surtout de rapprocher l’hôpital-prieuré d’autres fondations caritatives du sud-ouest aquitain.
Spital und Priorei Saint-Jacques in Bordeaux Die Kirche Saint-Jacques in Bordeaux ist das einzige Relikt des ehemaligen Spitals und der ihm angeschlossenen Priorei gleichen Namens, einer Gründung des 12. Jhs. Die Wiederaufbaukampagne des 15. Jhs. sowie Veränderungen durch die Jesuiten im 17. Jh. und durch die Weißen Väter im 19. Jh. prägen das heutige Aussehen des Baues, der nie Gegenstand historischer Studien oder Bauanalysen gewesen ist. Der vorliegende Artikel möchte der Kirche, die einen verblüffenden Chorschlussstein besitzt, ihren Platz in der bordelesischen Bau-und Skulpturenproduktion der zweiten Hälfte des 15. Jhs. zuweisen. Aufgrund bestimmter Dokumente lässt sich beobachten, auf welche Weise Stiftungen solcher Einrichtungen ihre architektonische Gestalt beeinflussen, die insbesondere auf die Aufnahme der Pilger ausgerichtet war, welche auf der via turonensis nach Santiago de Compostela wanderten. Vor allem aber ist es nun möglich, Spital und Priorei mit anderen caritativen Einrichtungen im südwestlichen Aquitanien zu vergleichen.
The hospital-priory of Saint-Jacques de Bordeaux The church of Saint-Jacques de Bordeaux is the last vestige of the ancient hospital-priory bearing this name, founded at the beginning of the twelfth century. An important campaign of reconstruction in the fifteenth century, followed by refurbishings by the Jesuits in the seventeenth century and missionary fathers in the nineteenth century, account for the current aspect of the building, ignored by historical and archaeological studies. The present article proposes to resituate the church, endowed with an amazing keystone in the choir, within the architectural and sculptural production in Bordeaux in the later fifteenth century. Certain documents also show how the foundation of this kind of establishment can influence the architectural disposition of others. This underscores its mission for receiving pilgrims, relaying Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle along the via turonensis, and the relation of the hospital-priory to other charitable foundations in south-western Aquitania.
