La théorie de la concurrence monopolistique n’a pu établir le lien entre la stratégie de différenciation et l’organisation oligopolistique. La prise en compte simultanée de ces deux aspects suggère une représentation de l’économie concurrentielle où le nombre restreint de rivaux éclaire le processus de formation des prix, mais aussi la dimension sociale d’un équilibre “mouvant”. Dans une première partie, nous rappelons certaines critiques développées par Chamberlin contre la théorie “standard” de la valeur, et leur confrontons les hypothèses “nouvelles” avancées par l’auteur. Le retour au modèle de concurrence monopolistique permet alors d’en mesurer l’insuffisance. Mais cet écart même invite à une autre approche du problème des unités économiques.
The theory of monopolistic competition has not been able to establish the link between the strategy of differentiation and oligopolistic organization. By considering both of these aspects simultaneously, it is possible to make a model of a competitive economy in which the limited number of competitors will help explain the process of the establishing of prices, as well as the social dimension of a “moving equilibrium”. In the first section of this paper, certain criticims developed by Chamberlin regarding the “standard” theory of value are examined and are contrasted with the “new” hypotheses proposed by the author of the Theory. Finally, by returning to the model of monopolistic competition, it is possible to measure its inadequacy. However, its very shortcomings suggest a different approach to the problem of economic units.
