Nous proposons dans notre article une réflexion sur la traduction des textes à granularité différente, textes arborescents de Proust et textes lapidaires de Cioran, à travers des analyses comparatives de l’original et de ses traductions. Le point de départ de notre étude est l’affirmation de la traductrice Irina Mavrodin sur la difficulté de passer d’un texte à phrases amples, comme celui de Proust, à un autre très concis, comme celui de Cioran, mais aussi sur l’opportunité de traduire Cioran, ayant comme toile de fond la traduction de la Recherche de Proust. Nous envisageons une lecture critique de la traduction du micro-texte et du macrotexte et surtout de leur relation d’équilibre et de complémentarité. Nous verrons comment, par l’utilisation de techniques traductives appropriées à chaque texte et à la langue traduisante, les traducteurs réussissent à ce que les unités de rythme se confondent avec les unités de pensée, rendant dans les textes traduits la granularité spécifique des textes proustiens et cioraniens. L’expérience traductive sur des textes à granularité différente nous permettra d’envisager aussi l’idée d’une unité du traduire.
Our paper proposes a reflection on the essence of translating texts which differ in terms of granularity (Proust’s ramified texts versus Cioran’s concise texts) based on a comparison of the original and its translations. We start from one of Irina Mavrodin’s statements about the difficulty of passing from an ample text like Proust’s to a very concise one like Cioran’s, but also about the opportunity of translating Cioran against the background of translating Proust’s Recherche. Our critical reading will be focused on micro-textual and macro-textual translation and complementarity. We shall see how, based on appropriate translation methods for each text and each target language, the translators succeed in turning the rhythmic units into units of thought, thus preserving the specific granularity of Proust’s and Cioran’s texts in their versions. Our translation practice on texts which differ in terms of granularity will enable us to equally envisage a unit of translation.
