La recherche française en géographie de la population offre une double singularité : d'une part des publications nombreuses, plus diversifiées que franchement novatrices, bien qu'émergent de nouvelles approches et un souci d'aborder les questions que pose la démographie au temps présent, d'autre part une faible cohésion d'ensemble à laquelle s'ajoutent une grande dispersion des individus et la grande inégalité des moyens dont ils disposent. Un effort de rationalisation et de concertation pourrait être très fructueux.
Assessment of French research in geography of population (1980-1983). French research on geography of population presents a double particularity: on the one hand, one finds a great number of publications, diversified rather than innovative even though new approaches do emerge as well as a real concern to tackle the contempory questions in demography; on the other hand, a weak cohesion of the whole, in addition to a great dispersal of the research workers and a strong inequality in the financial means available. An effort of rationalization and of dialogue might be very fruitful.
