In the Grands-Fonds karst of Guadeloupe (French West-Indies) the landscapes and ecosystems of a small valley are studied. The dynamic stages of the vegetation are representative of the land uses. They appear as a patchwork of small units, linked to the rough topography. The floristic analysis shows the ecological conditions as well as the potential ecosystems. The study reveals that the topography and the morphological actions (the erosion due to the human activities) are very important for the water supply of the vegetation, modifying the regional climatological scheme. It shows that the Grands-Fonds are a transitional space, with rough topography, where the human activities have changed the primary ecological conditions.
Un vallon du karst des Grands-Fonds (Guadeloupe-Antilles Françaises) fait l’objet d’une étude paysagère et écosystémique. Les stades dynamiques sont le reflet d’une pression anthropique forte, donnant un canevas de petites parcelles, inféodées à la topographie accidentée des lieux. L’analyse floristique reflète non seulement les conditions écologiques mais aussi le potentiel écosystémique. L’étude fait apparaître que les conditions topographiques et morphogéniques (érosion engendrée par les activités humaines) surimposent leurs effets aux dispositions climatiques régionales en modifiant la ressource en eau disponible pour la végétation. Les Grands-Fonds apparaissent ainsi comme un espace de transition où les activités anthropiques érosives, dans un contexte topographique accidenté, ont modifié les conditions écologiques originelles.
