Cet article vise à soutenir la thèse que la problématique herméneutique, conçue en un sens assez large, est primordiale pour toute recherche en sciences humaines, et qu'elle a donné lieu aux innovations les plus importantes dans ces sciences, surtout, au 20e siècle, depuis le déclin de l'idéologie empiriste dans les années 1958 à 1978. L'oeuvre d'Anthony Giddens, doyen de la sociologie britannique actuelle, prend une place importante dans cette évolution.
The contemporary relevance of the hermeneutical paradigm. This article argues that a broadly hermeneutic approach remains crucial for the human sciences. In the twentieth century, it was particularly fruitful in the period from 1958 to 1978 which saw the decline of empiricism in the philosophy of social science. The work of Anthony Giddens, the leading contemporary British sociologist, forms an important part of this development.
