  • Beschreibung: In this study, we are interested to the numerical solution of a hydraulic jump in open channel flow. The mathematical formulation is based on the application of mass and momentum conservation equations. The governing equations for hydraulic jump are a set of non-linear, hyperbolic, partial differential equations. This problem has been solved by the finite element method (FEM). In the general case, the velocity and the free surface elevation are considered as the two principle dependent variables of our model (U, η) but in our particular case, the discharge has been considered as a constant and the model is reduced to a momentum equation. The FEM can capture the hydraulic jump when proper upwind techniques are applied. As the hydraulic jump presents strong water level gradient, we are interested to add some computational nodes in the region of the jump. This is done by using an error estimator to analyze the numerical solution and by adjusting the element length to reduce the error.
