Aplicada a las imágenes satelitarias, la técnica de segmentación permite una determinación zonal en vez de la clasificación tradicional pixel por pixel. Tocante, por ejemplo, al urbanismo, dicha determinación zonal corresponde mejor à las informaciones útiles. Desde este perspectiva, se aplica aquí la metodología a la imagen de Aquisgrán (Aachen) para distinguir varios tipos de urbanización según la densidad o época de edificación.
La segmentation est une technique qui, appliquée à l’imagerie satellitaire, permet une détermination zonale des affectations, plutôt que la traditionnelle classification pixel par pixel. Cette détermination zonale correspond davantage aux informations utiles, en urbanisme par exemple. C’est dans cette optique que la méthodologie a été appliquée à l’image d’Aix-la-Chapelle (Aachen), pour y discerner différents types d’urbanisation, selon la densité ou la période d’édification.
Image segmentation is a technique which, if applied to remote sensing, allows zonal land use determination instead of the pixel by pixel land cover resulting from standard classification. For many applications, in town planning for instance, this zonal approach seems to be more useful. The methodology has been applied accordingly to an image of Aachen, with the view to distinguishing between different types of urban landscapes with respect to their age or density.
