FREUD RE-NOMMÉ Dans le souci de mieux faire connaître à des linguistes la façon dont la psychanalyse entend et traite les mots, un psychanalyste applique cette démarche à un mot privilégié : le prénom usuel de Freud. Celui-ci le transforma en effet à 17 ans, en extrayant de SigISmund la syllabe centrale IS. Le sens de cette opération peu ordinaire, le destin et la fonction du signifiant IS sont étudiés par lecture associative des œuvres écrites et des documents biographiques de Sigmund Freud.
FREUD RE-NAMED AND RENOWNED As an attempt to make it more familiar to linguists, the psychoanalytical handling of words is here applied to Freud's first name. Given at birth as SigISmund, it was transformed by Freud himself at the age of 17 : he extracted the middle syllable IS. The meaning of this intervention, the place and functions of the peculiar signifier IS are investigated by means of an associative re-reading of Freud's writings and biography.
