  • Beschreibung: Summary. — After its concise publication by K. Pink in 1929, the Krempelstein hoard is here reconsidered in depth and with a critical eye. The examination of the coins it contains reveals its very unusual nature compared to other hoards solely or partly composed of argentei. The period covered by the hoard is relatively long from 294 to 303 AD when the latest coins in the hoard were struck. This small hoard of gold and silver coins suggests that the coins had been deliberately selected by mint. Twelve different mints are thus represented. The presence in the hoard of several imitations of argentei gives an opportunity to raise briefly the question of their production and of their circulation alongside official coins after AD 294. Finally, a few suggestions on the date of the issues to which the coins in the hoard belong are put forward.
