Iron and power politics : the iron and steel policy of the Foix counts (XIII-XV centuries). From the end of the XIII. century to the beginning of the XV. the Foix counts were able to work out a real iron and steel policy inside an area particularly affluent in an ore with a high percentage of iron. This policy built up in a favourable context, since, during the One-Hundrer-Year War, the county held a real regional monopoly if the production, is partly at the origin of the Foix-Bearn house and of the assertion of its sway on either side of the Pyrenees. But by mid- fifteenth century and the resumption of commercial competition, the Count failed to modify his policy and adapt it to the new economic context.
