Le développement spectaculaire de l’aquaculture est aujourd’hui confronté au défi du développement durable. Une approche par les types d’éco-innovations est mobilisée ici à propos de nouvelles logiques de production, relevant de l’intensification écologique. L’objectif est de caractériser quelques-uns des facteurs déterminants des changements en faveur de l’intensification écologique dans le cas de l’aquaculture d’étang en France et au Brésil. La revue de la littérature nous a permis d’identifier trois profils d’éco-innovation : i) maîtrise des rejets et substitution des intrants ; ii) changements organisationnels et institutionnels des modes de production et iii) prise en compte des services écosystémiques. Ces profils ont été croisés avec la typologie des aquaculteurs d’étang élaborée à partir d’enquêtes en France (Brenne et Lorraine) et au Brésil (dans la Province de Santa Catarina dans la Haute Vallée de l’Itajai et à Chapeco). Les trois groupes identifiés caractérisent différents itinéraires d’appropriation des éco-innovations. Ces itinéraires sont fonction des apprentissages à la fois techniques, informationnels et organisationnels, mais aussi des pratiques initiales, du niveau d’information des exploitants et du contexte institutionnel.
The spectacular development of aquaculture is currently faced with the challenge of sustainability. An approach drawing on the different types of eco-innovation is used here to address the new production systems resulting from ecological intensification. The objective is to characterise some of the factors determining change towards ecological intensification in the case of pond fish farming in France and Brazil. A literature review revealed three eco-innovation profiles : (i) discharge control and input substitution ; (ii) organizational and institutional changes in production systems and (iii) integration of ecosystem services. These profiles were compared with the typology of pond fish farmers developed from surveys undertaken in France (Brenne and Lorraine) and in Brazil (the Santa Catarina region in the Itajai Higher Valley and in Chapeco). The three identified groups represent different trajectories for the appropriation of eco-innovations. These trajectories depend on technical, informational and organisational learning as well as on the level of producer information and on the institutional context.
