La matrice ordonnable est un procédé de traitement graphique des données. Son originalité réside dans le fait que, à travers toutes les étapes du traitement, le chercheur a la possibilité de réfléchir sur le contenu de son information, qu'il a en permanence sous les yeux, et d'en découvrir lui-même l'organisation en fonction des questions qu'il se pose. Les différents problèmes de transcription visuelle des données de base, de simplification de l'information, d'interprétation et de communication visuelle des résultats sont exposés dans cet article.
Questions raised by the use of an « orderable matrix ». The « orderable matrix » is a method of visual data processing. Its originality lies in the fact that, throughout each stage of processing, the research worker has the chance to reexamine the content of his information (which he has before him all the time) and to work out for himself how it can be organized according to the questions to be asked. The various problems of the visual transcription of the basic data, the simplification of the information, and the interpretation and visual communication of the results are set out in this article.
